At the opening ceremony was the first time that a woman was flag bearer, here it was the British flag (the opening was done through the governor of the state New York (Franklin D. Roosevelt) who later become the president of the USA): the speed-skater Mollie Phillips.

Because this year had very different weather, trucks with snow had to come over from Canada to make ready the ground of the cross-country skiing for the competitions. Because it was thawing, the competition of the four-man bobsled was driven after the official closings-ceremony, at 13 February.

The tournament of figure-skating was driven for the first time in a indoor-ice-rink and there was a record-audience. And there were for bobsledding (with for the first time a two-man bobsled) 14,000 spectators.

The Canadians and the Americans had high places at speed skating. The European weren't good, but that was because the European rules were different than the rules at these Olympics. By the European people was it that everybody drove every distances, and that the three fasts at every distance got a medal, was it at these Olympics a final for the best ones. Through that, the Europeans weren't very good.

The demonstration-sports this time were: curling, a competition with dogsleds and 3 speed skatingcompetitions for women (speed skating for women was started in 1960 as a real Olympic Sport).
