Braces
Many people feel that they need braces, but dislike the idea of wearing them for several years. Although that's an understandable feeling, braces can benifit you for the rest of your life, and are worth the temporary discomfort. Braces correct the alignment of your teeth to give you a more even bite, and they also correct bad habits such as overbite. Braces will shape the alignment of your teeth to give you a more attractive smile. As everyone knows, braces are very visible, and some people shy away from them because they don't want their teeth to "look bad." There are other options, though. Clear braces only display one small wire going across the teeth, while still delivering the benifits of traditional braces. Most orthodontists can also put colorful "bands" on your teeth. These are small rubber bands that come in just about any color and can be changed frequently. Everyone has to take care of their braces in a different way, but it's always important to keep them clean. The cleaner your braces are, the more efficiently they'll work. Make sure to thoroughly floss and brush all areas of the braces and get any tiny food particles out of your mouth when you brush. If you can, you should try to brush at least twice a day. See the dental health article for more information about brushing. When you get braces you have to give up sticky and hard foods such as gum, taffy and popcorn. Although this may sound terrible, most people adjust pretty easily and it works out fine.
