Serbia is now a post-war society, attempting to recover from
everything that has transpired in the past months, the past year and
even before.
NATO troops now occupy Kosovo to reinforce safety among Serbs and
ethnic Albanians alike. Ethnic Albanian families have begun to journey
back to their homes - what could be a joyous moment - but they are
returning to destroyed houses and planted land mines left by the Serb
army. Not only that, but they are also finding other remains of the
cruel, inhumane torture: mass graves of family. They are identifying
their relatives who had been mass murdered. Although they are now free
to come home, it is not a happy reunion for everyone.
Many Serbs have fled Kosovo out of fear of what would happen next.
There have also been many Serbs who have turned against their
president. Milosevic has been indicted a war criminal.
And in the many other countries who have become independent from
Serbia, such as Croatia, and Bosnia. They too are still covered by a
mist that reminds them of the wars fought not long ago.
There are many other problems that continue to affect the people.
It cannot be called a happy time now that the war is over. It's
bittersweet.
The whole conflict has somewhat drifted off of news screens. But
the plea of the people continues.
