By 1989, during the end of Ronald Reagan's presidency, the USA
had become a world power. It had a strong economic backing, and a
society where people with a mix of beliefs, races, and
origins could thrive in and proudly call their home.
Within the past decade, we reflect upon the happenings with Iraq; a conflict
initiated during the Bush Administration. The USA
became intensely engaged in the Persian Gulf
War. This was a result of Iraq
annexing Kuwait to their country. Eventually, the US also interceded in
northern Iraq to guard Kurdish refugees from Iraqi government
vengeance. The economic success of the USO, in regards to the oil situation, must also be mentioned as an issue in this war.
As both the USSR and Yugoslavia disintegrated, the USA was
one of the only foregin countries to recognize the republics' independence
as a pull away from past communist ties. The USA respectfully saw these
republics' rights to become independent, and economically supported their removal.
The USA was involved during the breakup of the Yugoslav
nation. As the republics seceded, the USA intervened during the Bosnia conflict, but many say it was too
late.
By now, the inevitable conflict in Kosovo
was growing nearer. NATO, led by the US,
stepped in and proclaimed an air raid on Serbia.
