Iraq is a country with a troubled nation, and a country which has only been independent for less than one hundred years. However, this short period of independence has not been undisturbed-- near constant warfare has taken place in Iraq for some time now. The bloody wars that Iraq has been faced with have painted a dark past and a shady future for the small kingdom.

Now, with Saddam Hussein having complete control of the area, and Kurdish uprisings common, it is questionable about what will happen in coming years.

Despite the vast amounts of petroleum in Iraq, its economy has suffered as well. The war between Iran and Iraq left Iraq with an exorbitant national debt, and a trade embargo imposed by the United Nations has further devastated Iraq's economy.

This is where Iraq stands, with war heavy on its shoulders, and a poor economy. Its past tells the tale of sorrow and war, its future may show the same.
