The people of Indonesia are divided by ethnic disputes. Riots and killings
dominate the news. Ethnic conflict, discrimination, and prejudice, what seems to be pure
madness, are constant. To further matters, the government of Indonesia is equally corrupt, resulting
in afflicted and impoverished citizens. Recently, the country
experienced an economic crisis that sent income rates plummeting.
Indonesia has a colorful Asian heritage, but their nation has fallen
into an era of corruption. Mobs and riots now roam freely, and the
economic bust and poverty are equally severe. The ethnic Chinese are
looked down upon as scapegoats. Above all looms the dark shape
of their government, where it is hard to see any justice and truth.
Yet many citizens of Indonesia are no different than people anywhere else
in the world, in that they have a cause. There are still families huddled in the
midst of the corruption that promote kinder, more gentle values than those of the
mobs. As long as families maintain this greater sense of good, there is still hope
left for Indonesia's future.
