"Excessive competitiveness, anxiety, hostility, suspiciousness, all originate in the nursery years. That is why, if we want a world of peace and not violence, love and not hate, cooperation and not murder, justice and not selfishness, we have to learn how to make childhood more happy. No nobler task could be pursued by our generation."

Why get involved? Why care about nations on the other side of the world?

Because of the people. Around the world there are human beings who are seriously effected every day. And these are not just people who are experiencing large issues, but small ones as well - in every country, there are issues on both small and large scales that are constantly affecting people both young and old.

For instance, poverty. This happens not only in economically poor countries, but in economically sound countries such as the USA. Crime also roams the streets in this country. War, human rights violations, economic problems...all of these sound far off and distant. But they are all too close. They affect most everyone in one way or the other, even if they are not aware.

It's reality, and it's happening as we speak. Our featured families are just a few of the everyday cases - and many occur on a much larger or smaller scale. The reality is that these are people. Ethnic differences, religious differences, skin, color, and beliefs - these are all sources of prejudice. People develop this because of ways of thinking, because they are taught this, and because they are raised in an environment where ethnic discrimination is a part of everyday life. Children can be taught differently. These ethnic discriminations are violations against human beings; humans who are no different than anyone else, white or black, Christian or Muslim, they are all people. And they should be treated like people, and granted rights as human beings.

"No man should think himself a zero, and think he can do nothing about the state of the world," Bernard M. Baruch said. Our future lies in our children and it is our job to give them a life of understanding, knowledge and education. Not just learning how to calculate math figures, or memorize dates and facts. The education that is going to change their future is of life lessons, understanding and awareness, broad perspectives and self esteem.

This site gives just a taste of real facts that occur around the world. But there are many more, and should be acknowledged. The existence of these issues need to be revealed. People need to become aware.
