Thinkquest is a contest/competition offering scholarship awards to students who make (on a judged basis) educational websites, encouraging the students to think and collaborate. This is all done on a world widelevel, so it enables (for example) someone in Philadelphia to work side by side with someone in Cairo, or someone in San Francisco to work with someone in London.

Many teams world wide compete/have competed in Thinkquest, which was started in 1996 by the people at Advanced Networks & Services, Inc., one of the founding companies of the Internet who developed and upgraded portions of the Internet itself (backbones, etc.) and now contribute to the Internet and world-wide learning community by sponsoring and maintaining Thinkquest and other benefitial programs. The ideal goal of entered websites is for them to become valuable learning resources, to be used by teachers in the classroom, or just anyone else interested in the site.
