Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is not known to carry
guns or pack tanks into battle. Rather, these soldiers are armed with a helping hand and
Gods saving word. They make up this special army tasked to serve the poor, care for
the sick, and just simply make lives a lot better.
The Salvation Army offers various services for those people in need. Their
range of assistance varies from fighting leprosy, alcoholism and drug rehabilitation to
providing homes for the homeless and students. In their campaign, the army has helped
1,600 blind people, sheltered 35,000 persons, fed countless souls, and saved 220,000 lives
from suicide.
This army was founded in 1865 by William Booth and has spread from London
to the rest of the world. To date, there are around 14,000 centers over a hundred
countries that cater to the needs of the poor. 800 of which are hostels especially
established to provide shelter for the homeless. The army also has provided 780 homes for
the elderly and 152 for those addicted to alcohol.
This organization has been so successful mainly because of the public
support. This is made possible by willing volunteers from all walks of life and as part of
their work, they offer their services to the army in their free time. For these people,
its giving without having to count the costs. The sheer joy and satisfaction that
they receive is rewarding enough for all their hard work and endeavors.
The message of the Army revolves around the Bible. Its core motivation is
the love of God as revealed in Jesus Christ. The mission for these soldiers is to proclaim
His gospel in order persuade others to reach out to humanity. Such ministry and help is
offered to everyone with no descrimination.
