Elements of a Just World
- Concern for Basic Needs:
There should be high priority for essential goods and
deliverance of these basic goods and services must be efficient in
order to satisfy the growing demands of the people.
- Just and Equal Distribution of Basic Goods:
Everyone has a right to his fair share. Each individual
must be given what is due to him to gain satisfaction.
- Concern for Dignity:
In a just society, there should be basic respect for
humans. To treat them with dignity is to acknowledge their human
rights.
- Empowerment of the People:
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and by concentrating
power within a small circle, you could expect anomalies to happen.
It is imperative to have a governing body that by the people and
for the people.
- Quality of Justice that Breaks Social Barriers:
In the eyes of justice, no person should be above the
rest and any form of discrimination should not be tolerated.
- Working With, and not Working For the Poor:
The poor will always remain dependent unless they can be
taught to rise above poverty. By tapping their skills and talents,
they can make living for themselves instead of relying on
charity.
- Concern for Social Structure:
Importance should be given in keeping social status as
equal as possible to avoid discrimination and abuse. The
marginalized should be lifted from their unfortunate situation and
treated as equals in society.
- A Community Where the People can Easily be
Good:
Often enough, kids learn through examples than words. If the
community were mainly made up of courteous and disciplined people,
then future generations to come would exhibit the same qualities.
Chances of corruption could be seldom because no example is
set.
Kinds of Justice
- Commutative:
This is justice concerning relations between individuals.
It dwells more on fair deals and exchanges.
- Distributive:
The relationship between the government and the community
is the core of Distributive Justice. Matters such as the fair equal
distribution of goods, taxation, benefits and burdens are
categorized here.
- Social:
It is the relationship between an individual with the community.
It is his or her contribution to the common good.
