Personal Experience

I was just a freshman then, and it was around December when this incident happened. The class just had its Christmas party, and I was one of the last guys to leave the school that night. Good thing my friend Ramon kept me company by hitching the ride on the way home.

I could feel the cold breeze passing through my shirt as the car sped through the open highway. Streetlights were flickering through the window. Alongside it were foam Santas waving from the light posts and silver bells shining underneath. I was almost caught in a trance, but the red light jolted me back to reality.

I was staring blankly on the street, as Ramon was playing with the radio. Only a handful of stations were playing on such a festive night. Seems like everyone has gone for a vacation.

A knock bothered our silence. In a corner, I saw this tiny hand shivering in the cold, followed by hair being flown in all directions. Then a pair of dark brown eyes that seemed to stare at me aimlessly peeped through. His mouth was half-open, as if trying to speak, yet hesitating at the last moment. His tattered clothes were fluttering along the wind. His arms were raised, leaning against the glass.

He nodded, but it only met my cold stare. He nodded again, but this time, with eyes rolling to match mine. His little palm started reaching for the glass. I was about to hand a coin through.

"Sige na ho, Kuya, kailangan ko po mapuno ang aking quota...(Sir, I need to fill my quota)" the child muttered. I could hear his teeth chattering.

The coin dropped on the floor and the car sped off. I never got the chance to see that kid again.

This website is dedicated to all those children who sleep in carton boxes every night. I hope humanity some day find the time and conscience to reach out and make a different in a child’s life.

Biography

Hi I’m Jay, and I’m the kind of guy who lives on caffeine and other sedating dairy products. Yes, I think of coffee as a sedative dairy product. It calms me down actually, that’s why I’m able to write this piece of text right in front of you. I’m already 18, and just graduated from high school. And if you were familiar with my ThinkQuest 1998 entry, The 1986 EDSA Revolution, you’d be able to keep track of my so-called life. Anyway, I’m about to enter college (Ateneo de Manila University) in just a month (upon this writing) in the same school in which I attended high school and grade school – fun isn’t it? All my life, I spent in the same campus with almost the same people and place. But that’s okay, at least I get to miss out all the traffic, right? Btw, I’m into lots of production and tech stuff – anything that has to deal with computers and media. Check out my other sites:
