In 1902, Walter Sutton published his paper
"On the Morphology of the Chromosome Group in
Brachyotola magna" in which he hypothesized that chromosomes carry the cell's units of
inheritance, occur in distinct, and different pairs
within a cell's nucleus, and that the
behavior of the chromosomes during the division of sex
cells was the basis for Mendelian Law of Heredity. Sutton's discovery
was the result of research on grasshopper cells. In 1903
Sutton published "The Chromosomes in Heredity,"
which stated that chromosomes contain genes, and that the
behavior of the chromosomes during meiosis is random. These
ideas formed the basis of the later developed Chromosomal Theory of
Heredity, and proved to be milestone
discoveries in the understanding of genetics. [ Home ] [ The Details ] [ Reactions ] [ Interactions ] [ About Site ] [ Bibliography ] Copyright 1998 by team 24355 and Kayotic Development. |
