James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the structure of DNA in 1953. In determining the structure, they constructed 3D models of the famous double helix structure of DNA. The discovery led to the creation of the molecular biology field of science. Watson & Crick, along with Maurice Wilkins and Rosalin Franklin were awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize for their work in the discovery of the structure of DNA.
