E-Mail is a way of communicating online. One person can send E-Mail to someone else's E-Mail address and receives the note instantly.
What do all these text areas do in the E-Mail Message?
We have created a graphic of a sample message you can look at here. This explains what many fields in an E-Mail message look like and what each does.
How do I send E-Mail?
To send E-Mail, you must first have an E-Mail address. Many Internet Service Providers give free E-Mail addresses when you sign up for their service. However, if you do not have an E-Mail address, there is now a free E-Mail service through a web site called Hot-Mail. Check out this site if you are in need of an E-Mail address to send E-Mail.
Why do I get advertisments in my E-Mail?
Unsolicited E-Mail such as this is referred to as spam. There is currently nothing illegal about sending spam mail out to many people so the only thing to do is to just delete it.
Common E-Mail terms
Below is a table of common E-Mail terms and what they mean:
|
CC |
Carbon Copy A carbon copy is defined when sending mail. It will send a copy of the mail to the e-mail addresses you specify here. |
|
BCC |
Blind Carbon Copy Blind Carbon Copy is a copy of the mail sent to all addresses defined here. The difference between this and TO is that anyone that is listed in BCC cannot be seen in the list of addresses by anyone but you. This works great for mail sent to more than 10 people so as to not need to scroll through long lists of addresses. |
|
Signature |
Signature The signature is something that is attached to every E-Mail message you send. Not all programs support this feature. |
|
Reply |
Reply A reply is a response to another person's E-Mail. Commonly, a "RE:" appears in the subject line. |
