AUTHORS: William Makepeace Thackeray

  William Makepeace Thackeray was born in 1811, in Calcutta, India. When he was six he was sent to live in a private school in Southampton. In 1829 he attended Trinity College in Cambridge, afterwards unsuccessfully attempting to become an artist. In 1836, Thackeray married Isabella Shawe, and in London in 1837 they had their first child of three, the second child dying very young. It was in the 1840’s that Thackeray began to be recognized as a writer. In 1863 he died due to heart troubles that he had had for some time.
