AUTHORS: JD Salinger

JD Salinger is an American author whose novel The Catcher in the Rye ranks as a minor classic. The book became especially popular among American high school and college students. The hero and narrator of the story is Holden Caulfield, a prep school dropout in search of self-understanding and a meaning for his life. His misadventures in New York City-namely with his sister, a girl friend, a prostitute, and others- are comic on the surface but agonizing for Holden. In the end, Holden learns to face the ugliness in life and the weaknesses in himself.
