Planets have long mystified and intrigued not only the astronomer, but space-loving individuals as well.  In our known solar system there are nine planets, including planet Earth. A majority of the planets have satellites, also called moons, orbiting them.  Each planet has its distinct markings and characteristics, and can even be seen with the naked eye or the aid of a telescope.  Each day the planets continue on their journey around the sun, some only taking a year, while others taking up to 250 years!! They also revolve around on their axis, and those times differ just as much.  That is where we get the 24 hour day from, it takes 24 hours for Earth to revolve around its axis
