Astronomy - Seek the Stars!
Astronomy, the
combination of physics, mathematics, and unbelievable beauty. The
known universe has been estimated to be about 4.6 billion years old, and
it is still expanding. How much longer it will expand, or if it even
will continue to expand, astronomers and scientists do not know.
Yet, more and more information about the stars continues to come back to
Earth. From Galileo to Thombaugh, people have had an urge to look
at the sky, sometimes just to daydream, and sometimes to make the dreams
come true. It is as Shakespeare said, "to thy own heart be true",
and that is exactly what Galileo did. Galileo had much pressure
from his peers and his patron to believe in the same ways as Aristotle.
Yet, Galileo did not, because he knew Aristotle to be wrong. In modern
day now, Galileo is one of the founding fathers of astronomy. So
let the astronomer in you take charge, and take a minute to look at the
sky, and who knows, maybe you will be the next famous astronomer...
We'd like to use this site to show that
there's more to the universe, or the night sky, for that matter, then just
stars. Most of this site will focus on what else is out there than stars;
it is our hopes that people will be able to go beyond "simple" stargazing
and open up a whole new world of possibilities in understanding and appreciating
the universe they live in.
