Town Meetings

Throughout the history of this great nation, the town meeting has been a forum for the expression of political views of the people. During colonial times, it was town meetings that allowed citizens to express their dissatisfaction with the British monarchy. During the revolution, it was through town meetings that groups such as the minutemen were organized. And, town meetings have not died out either. Today, across the nation, groups of disgruntled citizens hold town meetings to voice their discontent. One has to look no father than the extremely popular television program The Simpson's, where issues such as the monorail, the burlesque house, and Homer Simpson's impeachment as Commission of Sanitation are debated. In the real world, town meeting have merely taken on a new face. Instead of gathering hundreds of people into a cramped auditorium at a time inconvenient to most involved (although this still does go on), people have taken advantage of new technology to have their own form of town meeting. Televised forums are broadcast at all hours of the day on such networks CNN and MSNBC. More prevalent, however, are town meetings on-line. What has now become called the Chat Room is the modern version of the town meeting. They allow citizens to express their views on politics, and now let this occur without fear of repercussion. Although countless political chat rooms, we at You and YOUR Government would like to suggest a few. Our first choice, coincidentally, would be the Chat Room we sponsor (Government Chat). If you want to go elsewhere, we have a variety of suggestions for you. Two rooms we have found very strong are http://www.chatpolitics.com and http://www.4-lane.com/politicalchat . If you are a Republican, or would like to debate a few of them, try the Republican National Committee sponsored http://www.rnc.org/cafe/chat . Good luck, and change the world.
