Living: The Segnosaurus was almost as long as our time’s crocodile. It is thought to have a small skull and a shallow lower jaw, a toothless beak and large cheekbones. The Segnosaurus had muscular arms and the three-fingered hands had big claws. They had very small feet and might have had web between its toes.

The Segnosaurus belongs to an extraordinary group of dinosaurs with features from the Theropods, Prosauropods and the Ornithischies. Only few other dinosaurs have given the scientists so much troubles in their imagination of how this dinosaur lived. One possibility is that the Segnosaurus used its strong arms and hands to search a termitary for insects – just like today’s anteaters. The strong arms and hands could also have served as a defense-system. Some say, that it actually swam in rivers and lakes, catching fishes. But the Segnosaurs’ mouth seems not to be capable of holding a fish. A last theory is that it ate leaves, which the beak would be perfect for.

Distinguished Theropod. If the third theory is the right, the Segosaurus had been a curiosity between dinosaurs, a vegetarian Theropod. Its jaws and pelvis-structure was the answer to many vegetarian dinosaurs, but no other Theropod had these features. The legs indicate, that the Segnosaurus maybe only could walk or run slowly. But it is certain, that the Segnosaurus with its long thighs and short, wide feet had moved too slowly to catch a quick dinosaur, as the smaller predators did.
