This is a collection of links to other sites on the War of 1812. Navigating the InternetIf you are new to the Internet, it would of course be best for you to read the proper literature, available in most libraries and bookstores. However, here is a crash course on navigating the Internet. Simply finding your way around is quite easy. The Internet is based on "links" through hypertext. Clicking on hypertext with your mouse will take you to another location or present you with more information. Hypertext is different from normal text - usually, it is a different color and underlined.
Your browser toolbar may look like this Once you visit a so-called "link", you may return to the referring page by pressing the "back" button on your browser toolbar. The link you visited will change color. On "Re-living History; The War of 1812" normal links are blue or light blue, and underlined, while visited links are brown and underlined. This is an example of hypertext. In this case, the link will not take you anywhere, but normally, you would have been transferred to another page at this time. Images can also be links. To find out if an image is a link, simply pass your mouse pointer over the image. The pointer (usually an arrow) will change to a different symbol (usually a hand). This means you may click on the image just as you click on hypertext. If an image is a link, there will generally be some sort of way to indicate that to the user. Navigating our siteWhat you see on your screen now is what you will see for the most time during navigating our site. If you scroll to the top of the page, you will see several things. First of all, you will see three buttons at the top of the page. They are "Main Menu", "Help", and "Search". Clicking on the "Main Menu" button will take you to the main menu of the site, where you probably started your navigation. Clicking on "Help" will display this page. Clicking on "Search" will take you to our Search page, where you will find tools to look for information. On the side are other buttons which, if clicked, will direct you to most sections of our site. Other sections may be accessed through the main menu. "Re-living History: The War of 1812" was designed to be easy to navigate, so we hope that you will encounter no problems during your visit.
