A Brief History of the Xhosa:

The Xhosa have been in Africa for hundreds of years and now have westernized and have to urban areas. They are predicted to have settled in west Africa and over the hundreds of years the tribe got bigger. A man from Holland, Jan van Riebeeck, was a criminal, he could choose for his punishment, either to go to jail or sail on a ship to find the tip of africa (it was nicknamed cape of storms but later it's nickname changed to cape of good hope) and found a refreshment station. The reason for this is because many ships sailed past the tip of africa, to india for spices, many sailors on these ships got scurvey because of the lack of fresh food. He chose to found a refreshment station near the tip of africa and he succeeded. Later the British took over the refreshment station which by now was a town called Cape Town. The British sold the Xhosa people into slavery. The party ANC (african national congress) came into power in the year 1994 and ended this oppression. Today South Africa is a democratic country where the indigenous and white peaple are treated alike. The Xhosa customs are still being practised today exept for some. eg. the xhosa used to pay for brides with cattle, which was their currency ,nowdays they use money.
