Food and games
| Julius Caesar became famous by introducing food and games. But what is food and games? Julius Caesar built baths, amphitheatres and circus'. The citizens could enjoy themselves here for free. In the baths could they rest and could they wash themselves. In the amphitheatre, in the circus and in the colloseum was it different. There they could enjoy themselves by watching how men (gladiolus') fought agains each other (on life and death). The citizens would than cheer like we do at football games. At these events there was food and drink for free. That's why we call this all 'food and games'. The emperors and other rulers gave them bread and games, because by doing this they prevented a revolt. |
