The Great Ocean The ocean is a massive body of the water which covers about 70% of the Earth's surface. It is a home to underwater creatures- mammals like dolphins and whales, invertebrates like fishes and crabs, and micro-organisms like plankton. Deep down in the depths of the ocean lies a paradise once unknown to man. The corel reefs, ocean trenches, ocean ridges and the underwater volcanoes are some of the beauties. With the advancement of technology, man can now appreciate these surroundings by scuba-diving or through the windows of a submarine. Even then, the deepest part of the ocean remains a mystery. The ocean is not only a source of food and water, through distillation or indirectly the water cycle. It is the source of all life. Scientist believe that creatures from the land originated from the ocean through the evolution of micro-organisms. Most of us appreciates the ocean but, sad to say, man is destroying it by littering, dumping untreated chemical waste and conducting nuclear tests in the water. These are just some of the ways. Even if we are extremely cautious, accidents, like oil spills, do happen. We definitely do not want to destroy the ocean's bio-diversity. We hereby urge you to minimize the damage by doing your part. Think before you throw something into the sea. Is it worth it?
