2 Jawaharlal Nehru
Nehru was both an idealist and a visionary who left his impress on
every field ,more particularly in the field of industrialization and on
foreign policy which not only other newly -independent Asian and African
countries adopted, but which the succeeding governments in his own country
could hardly change. He inculcated courage in every Indian. He was
the first Prime Minister of Independent India.
However,
the contributions of Sardar Patel, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Khan Abdul Gaffar
Khan, Maulana Azad, Baldev Singh, Chiddambaram Pillai, Subramanya Bharathi,
and millions more fought for Indian independence from British rule cannot
be forgotten. However, when it gained independence in 1947, India was divided
into two nations -- an Islamic Pakistan and an secular India.
