I don't know Magnard at all, but I would highly recommend Robert Volkmann's First Symphony in D Minor, which is available on CD at least here in Germany. It's dramatic, lyrical, somewhat reminiscent of Schumann and Beethoven, and has a knock-out coda! Another excellent unknown symphony is the F Major Symphony of Hermann Goetz; I only have a radio (stereo) recording, but it's a decent performance of this brilliant, lyrical little symphony (c.a. 25 minutes long).
: I like to discover little known symphonies that are really good.

: Recently Through the Interenet a certain Steve Mole encouraged me to hear Albric Magnard's Fourth Symphony. I heard it on CD and it is gorgeous in my opinion.

: What a French master this little known composer was.
: That is if you like that style. I do.

: Chromatic, rich, romantic, rustic, flowery harmonies.

: I recommend Magnard's Fourth Symphony to any interested in little known great romantic symphonies.

:
: Thanks Steve Mole whoever you were.
