TOWNS OF EASTERN SLOVAKIA

Levoca After Belo's IV. death a stagnation in the developpement of Slovak towns began because of wars between Czechs and Hungarians. Last Arpads turned their attention to the eastern Slovakia, where all the trade from the northern Hungary was centred due to commercial relations with Poland. In the year 1271 Stephen V. gave a collective privilege to Saxons from the eastern Slovakia ; it became a foundation of the commercial developpement of settlements in this area. One of the most important was Levoca, founded after the invasions of Mongols. It was a residence of saxon earl and autonomy of all saxon province. The last Arpad Ondrej III. gave two important privileges to Bratislava ( 1291 ) and a collective privilege for 3 settlements in the eastern Slovakia : Presov, Sabinov and Velky Krtis.
