CAVERN DOBSINSKA LADOVA
It is located in Slovensky raj and is accessible (entre 971 m.n.m.) from a village Dobsina
in a valley Hnilec by a special path.
It could be divided into 3 horizontal levels. It´s a part of a cavern group Stratenska.
It´s length is 1232 m and a vertical layout 112 m. It contains, besides the iced Velka and Mala sien,
Ruffiho koridor and Prizemie, also not iced spaces (Kvaplova and Biela sien, Suchý dom, Kvaplová pivnica,
Peklo).
The condition for a formation of ice has been completed after a destruction of spaces between this
cavern and the cave Stratenska, when cold air has begun to accumulate. The ice decoration can be seen
in the forms of an iced floor, icefalls, ice stalagmits and pillars. The iced surface is 9772 m2, the
volume of ice is 110 132 m3. The biggest thickness of ice can be seen in the Velka sala - 26,5 m.
This cave is one of the most important ice caverns in the Europe thanks to the caracter of the ice
decoration. The temperature of air in the Velka sala is -3,8 - +0,5 °C.
The cave gives roof to 9 kinds of bat, especially Myotis mystacinus or, in the iced parties
Eptesicus nilssoni.
