TOPOLCIANKY
The history of the present-day manor house complex which underwent several construction
phases only emphasizes the importance of this locality. The oldest history of this manor house was
linked with the history of the Topolciansky family who gave their name to the estate and the village.
The oldest construction details date back to the l5th or the beginning of the l6th centuries. This is
to be seen from the routing of the preserved fortification system which was gradually extended by new
buildings. In the course of time these had fused into a regular four-winged Renaissance manor house with
an arcade courtyard from the l7th century. In the first third of the l9th century the Leglevich family
replaced the entering front wing by a new building in the classical style following L. Pichler's project
from 1818. The one-storey building with an exposed central column portico enhanced by a cupola in the
front, bears all the features of a comfortable living and magnificence with a circular hall, a wide
staircase, a dancing hall, a dining room, and a number of smaller salons. The manor house is encircled
by an English park. This complex has been declared National cultural monument by the Slovak Government.
