SMOLENICE

This castle was built during the erection activity of the Palffy family. In 1864 Jozef Palffy, Smolenice the last owner of the castle and the Smolenice property, decided to erect a chateau on the ruins of the old castle in the romantic style inspired by the study of the European historical architecture. Erection Blue saloon of the new building took into account the preserved fortifications and bastions and it concentrated on the new palace. However, Palffy's original plan was materialized only as late as 1971-1973 when the entering wing was completed and two bastions restored for the needs and accommodation of the Home of Research Workers of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
