Passes of Altai.

«Pass», as against geographical definition, in tourism is meant a way through a ridge from one valley to other . The list of passes is given for the most visited areas of Altai. They are allocated on our map with light-blue lines: the area " Multinskie lakes " (is marked with the letter M) and " Katunskay podkova " (is marked with the letter K).

The items of information on passes as of January 1, 1985 are included in the list.

The following information is given about each pass in the list:

· Designation of pass on our map.

· The name of pass .

· Height above a sea level, m.

· The category of difficulty .

It is the passes classification accepted in Russia.

The greatest number means greatest difficulty. The letter B means greater difficulty, than letter A. For example, the passes with a category of difficulty 1 are overcome practically without special equipment; with a category of difficulty 5 - the special mountaineering equipment and large mountaineering experience is required.

There are some passes in the list which have no height, as till now it has determined unsufficiently precisely.
