Red DogCominco's zinc/lead/silver mine in NW Alaska. Mine is owned by NANA Corporation and operated by Cominco. Red Dog is the largest zinc deposit in the world. Over 90 million tons current mine reserves with excellent exploration potential demonstrated.Fort KnoxAmax Gold Inc. new gold mine near Fairbanks. Began production in late 1996. Currently, 12 years reserves. Exploration potential is excellent. Mine is in part on mental health trust lands. Annual gold production is over 300,000 ounces.Nixon ForkNevada Goldfields gold mine near McGrath. Operated totally as a fly in - fly out operation. Mine produces about 50,000 ounces of gold annually along with copper. On site workforce is about 70. Current mine reserves are good for 4 or 5 years; however, the area has excellent exploration potential.Usibelli CoalMine continues to produce over 1 million tons of coal annually, about half burned in state for electric power generation and the remainder exported to South Korea through Seward, AK. Current reserves will sustain production well into the next century.Greens CreekJoint venture between Kennicott and Hecla Mining. Mine is located 15 miles west of Juneau on Admiralty Island. Mine produces zinc, lead, copper, silver, and gold. Over 250 employees currently all Juneau based. Known reserves are adequate for over 15 years production and area has excellent exploration potential.Illinois CreekHeap leach gold mine near Galena owned by Dakota Mining. Production began spring, 1997 with a work force of about 100. Current reserves good for over 5 years with excellent nearby exploration potential. |
