Eskimo World Olympics

Every year toward the end of July a unique sporting event takes place in Fairbanks, Alaska. It is the World Eskimo Indian Olympics (WEIO) WEIO is a 3 day event in which individuals compete against each other as in the Olympics. However, the games are traditional competitions of the Eskimo and Indian people of Alaska. This includes among others the Blanket Toss, Ear Pull, 1 Foot High Kick, 2 Foot High Kick, Knuckle Hop, Drop the Bomb, and 4-Man Carry. There are both men and women competitions, except that women do not do the 4-Man Carry or Drop the Bomb or other games which require strength beyond their capability.
