Being a grandpa, I have seen tremendous advances in computers. It is wonderfull
how much knowledge can be shared by the Web and e-mail.

Wow! Great page guys. There is truely
a great deal of information here. And I really love that you have a french version.
Trés Bien!

This is a truly outstanding effort!
The graphics are clear, well chosen and not intrusive. The text is kept short
but retains the essential essence of what's significant. My favorite is the
Quotes section. Just a superb job -- in English and French to boot!

I commend your team on a wonderful webpage! My first computer was a Commador
64 and I was unaware of computer development before then. I found it interesting
to discover that there were things called computers even before my C-64!
Franci
Nice work! It made me think
about my first computer, a MSX, with a fabolous Z80 processor.... Why don't
you think about an italian version....?

Thanks for the wonderful resource.
I really helped me in my project on technology in the ancient world and its
relation to today. Do you have any links to other sites like this one? Oh yeah,
the French version was excellente!

Being a high school student, computers have
made my like a whole heck of alot easier. This page just made my report on them
easy as pie! Thanks to whoever created this page.
Jo
Great page!!!!! I loved it all, A lot of info, I was wondering if you would
put on something like the history of individual companys like , digital, apple,
Mits, ibm , compac, Kds, cirix ... but that is the only idea I have to make
a great page better:-) Kudos

You have a very informative page
on the history of the commercial-side of computers. Maybe in the future you
could show more of the non-commercial side of computers such as the Free Software
Movement, UNIX/Linux and GNU. Or even maybe more on the history of the internet
and networking. Still... It cleared up some misconceptions I had.

Computers are great things
for human beings, but you must not depend on it's ability to do things. I think
humans are now too depended on it, and that in year 2000, just because of a
simple bug Y2K, most of this civilized world would suffer.
Robyn
Very informative page.
I am doing an assignment at University on the developments within operating
systems, this didn't help much, but it was very interesting reading.Good work!
Chinchu
Well according to me the computer industry will go a long way ONLY IF IT CAN
SOLVE THE Y2K PROBLEM.If that is possible before 31st December 1999 then everything
will go on as predicted by everyone. So let us keep our fingers crossed so that
our scientists can remove the Y2K problem and prevent the destruction of those
works of grest people like Charles Babbage, etc.Being a computer student I think
I know how much of hard work they must have done to bring this great invention
to this world.

In the future, IC's will not rely on the speed of electron flow to determine
the speed of the IC. The next step will use light to transfer data internal
to the IC. This will make the processor work at the speed of light.Remember,
you heard it here first...
Andrew
Great site,I was able to base
my history day (computer) presentation on some of the info from this site.I

Wow guys, realy this is a very prety fulfilled page. It meets all the information
required by a computer scientist who want to get a knowledge about computer
history. May GOD bless you and Go on...!!

Some fast~10Thz(TerraHertz[1000 GHZ]) Chips were
nice !And what about Atomic manipulation (not ending space to save data)3d Environment
at truecolor in realtime
geekasaurus
Gigahertz chips coming soon. Eventually we'll figure out the manufacturing process
to make Terrahertz chips. Intra-device mobility will scale to the point where
our cell phones, desktop computers, laptops or palm computers will be able to
communicate with each other WHILE WE ROAM. Imagine instructing your coffee maker
to have coffee ready for you by the time you get home, or being able to program
your vcr via cell phone while roaming. Wireless networks will make it possible
to roam and use your laptop while surfing the net. Perhaps we will find a way
to make laptop batteries to last continuously for days without recharging. I
also visualize 3D operating systems and web sites. I know that once company
has broken gound in this area with regard to web pages. Hopefull this will take
off with others and operating systems will follow. Ultimately, I would say minitiarization
and mobility is where it's all headed, so telecommications industries and those
into nanotechnology can look to make alot of strides and money for the computer
industry and the rest of us.
Rohan
Great page, i think that computers will become faster and faster and that there
will eventually be some rules and laws according to computers and internet.
Already computer games are being targeted its not long before the internet as
well.

i'm really angry at the corporations for banning violence on computer games
i mean there are some over violent games. sure they should have some restrictions,
but the truth is violence sells

Nice compilation, but I miss one thing. You did not mention John von Neumann
and the von Neumann Algebra, which I think is essential in understanding computing.
Keep doing the good job :-)
Alex
It's amazing how far computers have come in the last fifty years. Keep up the
good work, Team22522! Hopefully we'll get some gigahertz chips soon...

This is really a great job.. I was looking for sources for a research about
the subject. The timelines are a great Idea .. I really approceate your efforts..
Thanks..

Your website has been invaluable information in one place that has saved me
hours of work for a paper for in a graduate class I am enrolled in. thank you.
keep up the good work. is there a site that has history of other technologies,
such as video conferencing, OCR, e-mail, or morphing?

to put this information in the computer. so everyone needs to quit worring

Cool guys!! I needed this info for a conference (Im the one leading it) I knew
the facts, but I needed more info and the dates. I think that the Bio-chip project
will make every human a walking computer (sooner than u think) doesnt it ??

I haven't seen such a page with an accessible and complete details and information
with regards to computer technology, until I accidentally tried this one. Keep
up the good work. Such wonderful information will not only give us backgrounds,
nevetheless, these developments in IT will also motivate us to have a futuristic
approach by exalting us to a high degree of knowledge and competecy towards
not only in promoting an advanced society, but a society with a touch of untransgressed
humanity! May the advancing technology help the world in making the elusive
quest for maturity, inner development be a realization bec. it is how it is
formed ... help mankind.!

I think that today's technology is coming to its end because processors are
made in 0.18 micron technology and we can not go much further because that will
be like cutting an atom. A new technology based on quantum processors and neuron
nets will have to be presented.
Ryan
great site

Great site! I used some info for my school-project. I think in the future everyone
has internet and watches TV over the net. You get the PC free with an internet

The information on recent history was fantastic!!! But I was disappointed that
there wasn't more information on the early history of calculating machines including
the story of Pascal and his father and the story of Lady Lovelace the first
programmer.

Hopefully one day soon, we won't need keyboards and printer paper. The world
is becoming more and more electronic, and I support this metamorphosis fully.
In the meantime though, we have history to learn from, thanks to you guys! If
you need any help with this page at all, just ask, allright?
ilhan
hey you !!! , i thanks to every one who premare this site and serve us(people
who are on net and search a well sýte about computer ) and also ý expect osee
an internet page like this.
Susu
Really well-produced site - simplicity is key to understanding - good graphics,
and great choice of font - absolutely clear. The site was poor only in its sometimes
overt Americana - I am glad you took the advice of one of your commenters and
included Konrad Zuse (although the graphic was inacessible to me ) in the version
that I saw.In the future I expect a revolution in sensory-technology - voice
and touch-control communication, live -action chat, usw...Greater public access
to the internet - they already have workstations with internet access (experimentally)
in some train stations/airports in europe, I think. A true revolution will occur,
however, when (english-speaking) computer geeks are able to write proper english
once again. (No offence to other language-speakers - but they probably see the
same problem occuring in their own languages).

I would first like to say thank's for
prodcing such a great page. I am currently doing a report on the history of computers,
and without your page, I woudnt have much to go on.Second of all, the future is
in light technology, I dont mean weightless, but in holographic. such technology
is already in the drawing board. Thankyou
Isaac
Grat stite fellas!:)

i do think you should select the messages which are sent to you. Some are rubbishes. There
are enough mad people nowadays.Regarding our future, i think we are going from
"pervasive computing" to "one-screen machine". in fact, we will have one screen
embedded in a wall at our home which offer the possibility to watch TV, talk with
video, send mails, buy things,... I do hope there will be no big Brother watching
us. nevertheless, do keep watching how the nature is marvellous.Y.

applied like paint to your walls) I would like to have a wall like that.

It's a very nice compilation of data, however I really miss von Neumann's crucial
role in computing (the v. N. Algebra) :-)

We're rushing our project
and still have no idea on the subject. We are required to make a tutorial about
computer's history and we've seen your site. It's great! Thank you very much,

My hope for the future is that everybody, all over the entire world, has equal,
free access to the web. I would like to predict that softeware will tend to
be free, computers will be much cheaper and efficient, and our whole world will
evolve around computers. ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY IN ALL THE SCHOOLS IN THE WORLD
NOW!
You guys did good getting all of the information together. It made it a whole
lot easier to just highlight, copy, paste on my computer history project. haha!!!!!!!!

Have to say the page is excellent! Got loads of info for a disgustingly hard
Irish Essay. So 'Go raibh míle maith agat!' That means Thanks a million

In fact, regarding the PC in
itself, the design has not changed ! There is still the same design and the same
tools connected !Of course there is today what is called "the pervasive computing"
with an access to Internet through TVset, mobile phones, playstation, personal
digital assistant, and even in the car, but I think someday there will be less
tools connected, with more and more services... This site don't talk unfortunately
about what is possible thanks to computers and Internet nowadays. Me, I use videoconferencing
(Netmeeting, ex: on ils.vol.net, or others ILS servers) and I can chat with people
worlwide. It is marvellous. Like that, I am less lonely. A GIRL
no_brainer
Thanks to computers, anything is possible. If I did not have a computer, I could
never make a website, by products, and many other things! The first computer I
remember seeing and understood its speed was a 486 DX. Boy have things changed!-Matt,

This page helped me get an A+ on a project on the history of computers in my
Computer Applications class! Thank you!
D.M.
I always liked computers, and in the future I think we'll be seeing 500GB, or
5Terabyte Hard Drives. Hard Drives are good because without them, the computer
has little, if not no, use.(At least theese days.)
Darran
Let's all just remember, electrons and light only travel so fast, atoms have
a finite size. Because current technology is based on these (silicon, electrons,
metal oxide), computers will only get so small/fast! What Then? Quantum Technology????
PS. A fantastic site, brought back fond memories of my C64 and Apple IIe.
Don't worry
Yall need to get a life. There are
too many nasty people here too, that needs to stop. This was a waste of my time.
