Serzone (nefazodone)

Serzone is in a class of its own. It is one of the newer antidepressant medications.

In addition to treating depression, it also helps treat the anxiety often associated with depression. Relief of anxiety usually occurs quickly, often in the first week.

People who have depression with anxiety often have difficulty sleeping. Serzone does not aggravate sleep problems. In fact, recent research shows that it improves sleep quality.

Side Effects

Serzone side effects include: dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, weakness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, and confusion.

Using the Drug

The recommended dose is 100 mg/day, divided in two doses, with incremental increases over several weeks.

The effective dose range is 150 to 300 mg taken twice a day.
