  Description

The term whitefish refers to at least seven different species that are closely related, all of which are found in the arctic or sub-arctic regions. Whitefish are members of the Salmidae family. They are similar in shape to the salmon, but they have smaller heads. The largest whitefish variety, the sheefish averages about 4.5 kg (10 lbs) in size.
