| As its Latin and English name imply the hybrid striped bass is a cross between
the striped bass and the white bass. The two species were successfully hybridized
for commercial farming in 1967 in California. Today the fish is farmed at
about 100 locations in the southwestern United States. The fish is also
known as sunshine bass. It more closely resembles the striped bass than
the white bass. At present harves of the striped bass, from which the hybrid
is a descendant, is prohibited in most eastern states and California. |
