  Description

As its Latin and English name imply the hybrid striped bass is a cross between the striped bass and the white bass. The two species were successfully hybridized for commercial farming in 1967 in California. Today the fish is farmed at about 100 locations in the southwestern United States. The fish is also known as sunshine bass. It more closely resembles the striped bass than the white bass. At present harves of the striped bass, from which the hybrid is a descendant, is prohibited in most eastern states and California.
