We’ve
all heard of it, but is it as boring as we think it is? That, is
your choice but if you want to learn more, keep reading……. In connection
with music, the term classical has unfortunately been used in several ways
making it hard to describe. But, generally this term is applied to
something that has attained supreme excellence in the past and hasn’t been
destroyed by time.
Classical composers though, unlike the Baroque composers neither expressed their ego’s or glory. Instead, they concentrated on the power music has to communicate, and focused on bringing out it’s majesty and beauty. This encouraged the qualities of order, stability and harmony. The classical period therefore was not limited to any one time, but it has been favored more in the 18th century when it reflected the style of living. Beethoven, Hyden, Mozart and Schubert, four of the most famous and talented composers of all time centered their music during this era. By this it is meant that they stuck to tradition by masking their emotion to the accepted ‘rules’. Yet no one can surpass the expression in Mozart’s concertos or the passion in Beethoven’s music, (If you haven’t heard of Fur Elise or any other famous piece listen to the ice cream truck) thereby attaining the highest form of excellence and earning the title ‘classical’! |
