Clay animation artists work with clay to make their characters. When they are making their movies, they have to move their characters little by little after every shot in order to simulate the characters moving. For each second of film, animators may be required to take up to 24 different frames of film! Clay animators make their characters out of a non-harding clay or any other substance that can be easily manipulated. Clay animation requires fine motor skills and a lot of patience. They work long hours for many months to produce a piece. If a person is experienced, a 30-second commercial can bring in $80,000, but it takes months and sometimes years to complete a job. This is a wonderful field for anyone who enjoys working with his/her hands and enjoys art.
