It was like the TV soaps - there was espionage, treason, romance and tragedy. Dubbed one of the 'greatest trials' in History, watch the trial of the Rosenbergs unravel before your eyes. Though there were many protests all over the world, the Court continued with its decision - the Rosenbergs had to die. The controversy only died down when cables containing top-secret information were released.

Oda Nobunaga was the greatest war genius of all time - his greatest dream was to unite Japan. He was inching closer and closer to this ambition of his, but alas, he was assisinated at Honnoji by Akechi Mitsuhide, who was one of his most trusted generals. Not wanting his enemy to witness his humiliating end, Nobunaga hid in one of the rooms at the back of the monastery and disemboweled himself.

Major John André (1751-80) was hanged as spy during the American revolution (1775-83). He had gone to meet US traitor Benedict Arnold (1741-1801), the commander of West Point, which guarded the Hudson River. Arnold wanted to surrender the fort to the British and he handed André details of his plans. The ship that was to take André and the secret plans back to the British Army left without him. André disguised himself as a civilian but was caught by the American military with secret papers hidden in his boots. The British spy was hanged on 1780; he had earlier on written to General Washington asking to be shot as a soldier to avoid the disgrace of being hung as a spy. His request was denied.
