There was much western influence in the middle of the 16th century in Japan. The success of the three military strategists, Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu has to be seen against the background of western influences. The flow of Portuguese and Dutch into Southern Japan brough in the British Will Adams, trusted advisor to the Shogun, Ieyasu. Later on, historians discovered he conspirated against the Japanese for the Portuguese and Spanish.
