It's not impossible to change the situation in the Bio-industry. There are possibilities to change the food or the housing.  

Calf's  
It still happens that calf's live in kind of cases. That's why they're often called case calf's, they have hardly any space to move; they always have to stand. Because they can't move very well, they become ill and weak. The consequence is that they get drugs and power food. Normally the calf's would walk in the meadow together with their mother. But if they take the calf away from the mother for fattening, they have to take care that they stick to special rules to keep the calf's healthy. That means they have to live in a group and stand on straw. They need liquid food with a nipple, because of their need. Beside they need raw food so their stomachs can develop.  
  
Pigs  
Bio-industry seems cheap, but its not when you consider that sows from the bio-industry are less fertile as a sow that can walk outside. And porker that lives on straw grow faster and better as porker that grows on a concrete floor. With free range pigs they use this facts. The sows live outside and are more healthy then the others that lives inside.  

Chickens  
Last years many farmers exchanged the battery for a free range barn. More and more people want to pay a few cents more for a free range egg. But free range chickens also don't come outdoor. But they do  have enough space to move, there is daylight, there are nests and they can take a dust bath. A new method of keeping chickens, is to keep them on grass. They come outside for sure, on grass. Probably the free range egg will be exchanged for the grass egg.
