NORTHERN RENAISSANCE

HANS HOLBEIN( 1471 ~ 1528 )

Hans Holbein was educated in his father's studio in Augsburg, but early in his career he left his native Germany for Basle in Switzerland. It was in Basle that Holbein met the reformist scholar Desiderius Erasmus. Erasmus provided an entry to English court circles, where Holbein eventually received royal patronage from King Henry VIII.
