CHRIST AT THE SEA OF GALILEE
|
     c. 1575~80, 117*169cm

The contrast between Duccio's picture of the scene in which Christ first summons Peter and Andrew, and Tintoretto's extraordinary painting could not be greater. Once
again we see Christ at the Sea of Galilee, here in the middle of a violent storm. He stands on the water and calls to His amazed Apostles. But as Duccio's panel painting was all certainty and calm-the moment of revelation, frozen in time and silent-Tintoretto's canvas reveals an uncertain world, filled with danger, doubt, and confusion.
