A splendid Bellini, The Feast of the Gods, was modified into
even greater splendour by no less an artist than Titian. It is still quintessentially Bellini: all the gods are characterized and
something of their legends and relationships given pictorial form, all in a golden light of high classical dignity. Another sign of his greatness as an artist is that having led the way for
Giorgione and Titian (who heralded an entirely new phase of
painting), the aging Bellini allowed himself to be led by the
younger artists and, adapting his own style, produced masterpieces even in his eighties.
