The three western religions are so similar due to their common Semitic background. This common background shows in the religions' similar beliefs. For example, the three religions share the belief of one deity (this belief is called monotheism). The Semites also had in common a linear view of history. In the beginning, God supposedly created the world and placed Adam and Eve on earth during the 6th day. In the end, Judgement Day, God will judge both the living and the dead. On Judgement Day, all evil will be destroyed. In addition, the original Islamic Koran, and the original Old Testament were written in the Semitic family of languages. Even today, the 'eternal city' of Jerusalem holds Jewish synagogues, Christian churches and Islamic mosques. It is quite sad that Jerusalem is being fought over by the three great religions. If God created the universe in 7 days and created the sun in 3 days, how was time measured prior to the sun's creation? How could God have created something out of nothing? Who created God? Did God create fossils? These are some of many questions about creation. Today, scientists have found that it is most unlikely that God created the universe in 7 days. Fossils and extinct species are evidence that God was not the creator of the universe. |
