The RMS Titanic - The 3D Titanic
THE SINKING OF THE TITANIC was rendered using a 3D modeling program called 3D Studio Max. The Titanic's hull, decks, funnels, and other components were each painstakingly modeled using a variety of tools within the program, and are all accurate to the original ship. We looked at pictures of the ship during construction as to get a sense of how the ship was built. Once a wireframe of the ship was created, the process of texturing each of the individual components was accomplished. Next came the animation. After a suitable iceberg environment (ocean, stars, iceberg, etc.) was created, we started the process of animating the sinking of the Titanic. This proved to be a difficult process, but we did accomplish it after several months of intense work and debugging, we have the finished product below.The movie of the sinking of the Titanic has been encoded in RealVideo, as to shorten download time. Although the original movie with uncompressed frames (the best possible quality) was upwards of 500 megabytes, the streamed RealVideo 56k edition is as small as 430 kilobytes.
Because of this, you will be required to download and install the RealVideo Player, available for all operating systems.
