The "Only Child" and Family Planning

CHILD

Since 1981 China has been carrying out the "family planning" policy. By law, each family is limited to only one child in order to resolve China's population problem. Currently China's population has already reached 1.4 billion. Children under the age of 18 are all "only children."

By the year 2001, there will be 240 million "only children," which is about the population of the United States. By then, the entire population under the age of 21 will be "only children," and the second generation of "only children" will begin to emerge.

The implementation of the "only child" and "family planning" policy has generated an unprecedented shock to Chinese society; many new social problems have emerged. One example is the aging of the population Another is the complete destruction of the traditional Chinese family.

In the 21st century, what was the unique character of the "only child" generation will become the common character of an era. No one knows how much he or she will change the world.
