Wilfulness
and selfishness

The only child is the only boy or only girl of the family and therefore is the most valuable.
Spoiled by the old generations, most of the only children are willful and selfish. At home, the parents try in every way to satisfy their only child, or even wink at their mistakes and weaknesses. Gradually this practice makes the children arrogant and imperious. And as the "master" of the family, like the Chinese phrase goes,
"he or she can not be offered the star if he or she asks for the moon."
If the child did not get what he/she wanted or if somebody did something that made him/her unhappy, he/she will cry and vent his spleen, until his demand is satisfied.
This is bad temper and low tolerance is one problem caused by the only child family, another well known problem is selfishness.
With no brother nor sister to love, nor to share any love with, and since every other family member takes good care of the only child, he or she would then think that himself or herself is the only object for love and everybody should love him or her.
By the end, only child often does not realize the need to share or return the love pour onto them; the only person they does know to love is-- himself/herself.
The above two personalities grow along with the children, and make it hard for the them to get along with others. If they do not get rid of willfulness and selfishness, then they will never be incorporated into a group.
